PERTUBUHAN IKRAM MALAYSIA (IKRAM)
The IKRAM Organisation of Malaysia

22nd March 2011

SYMPATHY FOR THE PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN

The 8.9 magnitude earthquake-spawned tsunami that inundated the coasts of Japan on 12th March 2011 has caused grief not only to her people but also to the rest of the world. So far, the confirmed death toll has reached more than 22,000 whilst 20,000 people are still missing or unaccounted for.

In the wake of this double tragedy, two out of six nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant exploded, spreading fear that the spread of radioactive materials beyond the borders of Japan would be a threat to health in the neighbouring countries of the Asia Pacific region.

Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM), a Malaysian Islamic organisation involved in Islamic call, welfare and educational activities, expresses its condolences to the people and government of Japan.

IKRAM will participate with the people and the government of Malaysia in extending assistance to the people of Japan, in the spirit of solidarity and friendship.

IKRAM also urges the Malaysian government to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of more than 5,000 Malaysians living in Japan.

It is our hope and belief that the Japanese people, known for their discipline and resourcefulness, are able to recover swiftly from this calamity, as they have done during the aftermath of the Second World War.

We pray for the safety, wellbeing and resilience of the people of Japan.

DR MOHD PARID SHEIKH AHMAD

President
Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM)
